The company has exclusive access to the IPSTAR telecommunications satellite and associated gateway infrastructure in New Zealand and is contracted to provide New Zealand service providers with a range of wholesale bandwidth. The IPSTAR satellite was launched in 2006 and is the largest two-way communications satellite of its kind. It delivers high-capacity data, voice and video links to 22 countries in the Asia Pacific region and provides effective coverage to over 99.9% of New Zealand.
BayCity Communications' goal is to manage and add value to the IPSTAR bandwidth and deliver to New Zealand a large scale, satellite-based broadband platform that competes effectively with terrestrial broadband solutions such as ADSL, Cable Modem and Fixed Wireless by providing wide ranging coverage, and fast and flexible service deployment.
